Rifaximin is used to treat bacterial infection in the intestines. It has to be used only to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
Rifaximin is an antibiotic that works differently from other antibiotics because it passes through your stomach and into your intestines without being absorbed into your blood stream. Because rifaximin treats only the intestinal tract, it will not treat infections of other parts of the body. Rifagut tablets are available in strengths of 200 mg and 400 mg.
